Coach Stuart Pearce and defender Ryan Bertrand look forward to London 2012 kick-off.


Team GB head coach Stuart Pearce and defender Ryan Bertrand are looking forward to London 2012 after the 18-man squad for the men's competition was confirmed.

The pair caught up with FATV at Wembley Stadium, where they will meet United Arab Emirates in their second group game on 29 July, and spoke about their pride at being a part of the first Great Britain football team at an Olympic games in 52 years.

"I'm very honoured to have the opportunity to manage this team," Pearce told FATV after Monday's announcement. "Make no mistake I believe in my own mind that I have worked hard to be given this opportunity and I won't take it lightly.

"Because of that, I believe every decision I have made has been done with thoroughness.

He added: "Once the football starts, this could take off a surpass Euro 96 in regard to excitement and everything that the olympics encompasses."

And for Chelsea's Champions League winner Bertrand, his selection to Team GB is a special moment: "For me this is fantastic," siad the left back, who played in Stuart Pearce's England Under-21s side. "Being from London, born in London, grew up in London, for me persoanlly and all my family it's a very proud moment."
