White going for Gold
Team GB Women v New Zealand
Olympic Games, London 2012
4pm, Wednesday 25 July
Millennium Stadium, Cardiff
Team GB Women's striker Ellen White will be hoping to lead the line for Hope Powell's side as they begin their quest for Olympic glory on Wednesday afternoon.
The Arsenal Ladies striker will be amongst the favourites to start the game in Cardiff, in what is the very first even of the London 2012 Olympic Games and she admits that it's an adventure she has thoroughly enjoyed so far.
And the immediate aim is to collect three points from the match to give themselves as good a start as they could hope for.
"I think we have got a great chance," admitted White.
"Our group is pretty tough but we have got a good team. Our Coach keeps saying we need to get out of our group and try to finish top if we can to give us an easier quarter-final.
"To be honest, there is no point in going to the Olympics and not wanting to win it."
The whole notion of a Team GB is something new to all of the footballers involved, but White revealed that things couldn't have gone better for the group so far as they all set their sights on collecting a medal.
"It's something completely different and a Team GB will probably never happen again so all the girls are really excited," she explained. "We don't want to look too far forward but we have got to aim for the medals.
"It's been a once-in-a-lifetime experience because I'm going to be playing alongside girls who normally play for Scotland and Northern Ireland. We have got a great team spirit and everyone is getting on really well, which can only be a good thing."
