Sir Trevor Brooking is heading back to St. George’s Park this weekend as the venue prepares to host The FA England Awards.
With the England Senior and Under-21 squad based there and the U19s group also in training ahead of their games next week, Brooking is pleased to see the national football centre up and running.
The FA’s Director of Football Development was one of the driving forces behind the creation and construction of SGP, which was officially opened last October.
And with the inaugural Awards night being one of the key events of The FA’s 150th anniversary year, Brooking is excited about the prospects for all England teams.
He told TalkSPORT: “With the 150th anniversary year, it seemed a good time to start it with all of the teams and the good thing about St. George’s Park is that we’ll have the Senior team, the Under-21s and the U19s there.
“So it’s great to have the interaction that a lot of the other countries have, with different age groups interacting when they’ve got a week when they’ve all got matches.”
Roy Hodgson’s squad and Stuart Pearce’s Under-21s will all be present for Sunday’s England Awards, before training side-by-side with Noel Blake’s U19s on Monday morning.
And Brooking is pleased to see St. George’s Park being put to full use since its opening, not just by the international teams.
“We’ve had coaching courses and sometimes you get a club or two calling in,” he explained.
“It’s a site now where everyone meets and catches up and a lot of friendships have been formed there.
“It’s something we’ve never had in the past as we’ve never had a facility as attractive as St. George’s Park.
“Funnily enough, we had Stoke there last week because the weather was bad and with the undersoil heating and indoor facility, it’s a great venue.
“Stoke spent the day there and Bradford stayed before their Cup tie at Villa and it’s been a really exciting time for football.”
