Manchester Futsal Club began their FA National Futsal League North title defence with a comfortable 13-5 victory over Liverpool at Knowsley Leisure Centre and Culture Park.
England international Stuart Cook bagged five goals and Dan Haralambous four as the champions raced into a 10-4 half-time lead.
Ross Bond, Sam Richardson and Paul Thompson were also on target for the visitors, while Eliot Brown was the unfortunate scorer of an own goal.
Liverpool had taken a 3-2 lead courtesy of goals from Kyle Ferguson, Alex Ayala and Mattone Awang before Manchester hit back. Ferguson added another before Karl Gornell finished the scoring with a consolation goal.
Last season’s runners-up Middlesbrough lost their opening game at home to Sheffield. Richard Ward netted a hat-trick for the visitors and Thaddaeus Taylor also bagged a triple for the hosts.
Pete Bulmer scored twice for Middlesbrough who were 5-2 down at the interval at the Thornaby Pavilion. Jonathan Steel and Joel Rocha got on the scoresheet for Sheffield while Ryon Leyshon scored a brace to ensure the points went back to South Yorkshire.
Leeds and Wakefield enjoyed a terrific start to life in Division One with a 9-4 victory at home to Hull. James Nestor was the stand-out performer with five goals for the hosts, while Matthew Stirland bagged a hat-trick and Marcin Kluza also got on the scoresheet.
Jonathon Prosser, Darius Tamasauskas and a double from Matthew Payne were not enough for the visitors who slumped to their second consecutive defeat.
Newly promoted CYDC Leeds and Derby Willows met at @Futsal Leeds Arena. There were hat-tricks for Fahid Sulemane of Leeds and Samuel Huntingdon of Derby.
Joshua Pugh and Shane Nicholls were also on target for the visitors, but Leeds just edged the contest with two goals from Raphael Collarile and one from Jeferson Migliozzi to win 6-5.
