Howard Webb has been chosen as the referee for Sunday's World Cup Final between Holland and Spain at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
Webb becomes the first Englishman to referee a World Cup Final since Jack Taylor in 1974 -as Holland lost to West Germany.
The Rotherham Select Group official, along with his team of assistants Mike Mullarkey and Darren Cann, last refereed in this year's Finals at the last 16 stage, when Brazil beat Chile 3-0. He also took charge of Spain's opening game against Switzerland and Italy's meeting with Slovakia.
The World Cup Final is the latest high profile match for 38-year-old Webb who was also in the middle for the Inter Milan v Bayern Munich Champions League Final in May.
The FA's "Get Into Refereeing" campaign, in association with Carlsberg, is part of the National Game Strategy, a £200 million investment in grassroots football. For more information about becoming a referee, visit www.TheFA.com/Referee.
