Arsenal’s Danielle Carter has targeted Continental Cup glory to round off what has been a memorable season.
The 20-year-old forward was a part of the Gunners squad that lifted The FA Women’s Cup in May and followed up that success by helping Great Britain win gold at the World University Games in Russia.
She has enjoyed her most prolific campaign to date with eight goals, form which earned her a maiden call-up to the England senior team for the recent World Cup qualifying double header against Belarus and Turkey.
And now Carter wants to finish the season on a further high by defeating Lincoln in Friday’s FA WSL Continental Cup Final.
She said: “It was disappointing that we didn’t win the league, but we did get to this final and we won The FA Women’s Cup so it has been a good season overall.
“People might look at it that we’ve had a bad season, but we have achieved more than any other club - we could still do the double. That is definitely our aim.”
Arsenal and Lincoln have met three times this season, with all three matches ending in a draw.
Indeed, Lincoln, who will be appearing in their first-ever cup final, are the only side the Gunners have failed to beat and Carter is expecting another close encounter at The Hive.
She added: “It is always tough against Lincoln. They can be hard to break down and tactically very clever. But hopefully they will commit more players forward as they try to win the game. If they do maybe we can open them up a bit more than we have managed so far.
“We have drawn with them three times so whatever they are doing, they are doing well. Maybe we need to tweak a few things and obviously take our take our chances.
"Once that whistle goes, history will count for nothing. It’s simply about who is the better team over the 90 minutes.”
