Derby defeats are always the worst.
Unlike other losses, the gutting feeling of disappointment is magnified by the fact the winners will be basking in their success only a matter of miles, or even metres, away.
Routine trips to the workplace or the pub become more difficult as the vanquished seek to avoid the victors.
Fortunately for Yaxley, who were eliminated in the Extra Preliminary Round of The FA Cup by rivals Peterborough Northern Star less than three weeks ago, they will have the chance to banish such feelings and reclaim local pride when they face the same team again in a different competition.
Northern Star triumphed 3-0 in The Cup, but the two sides will reconvene on Friday night in the First Round Qualifying of The FA Vase.
And Yaxley boss Brett Whaley has revealed his players are itching to get one over on the team from eight miles up the road.
He said: "We're pretty close to each other and we are each other's local rivals. So to be drawn in The FA Cup and The FA Vase is unusual.
"And it means we get back-to-back games against each other. Unfortunately we lost 3-0 in the first game and were well beaten, so this week presents an opportunity to get a bit of revenge.
"We are desperate [to win]. We let ourselves down badly that night - we didn't perform. They were the better side on the night; they worked harder and wanted it more than us.
"Although it was such a disappointment to go out of one competition, it means we're really focused on Friday night's game. And we certainly need to do ourselves justice."
Whaley, who is a decorator by day, hopes his players' existing knowledge of their opponents will prove to be a fillip on Friday.
He added: "We've started OK - we've brought in five or six new players so obviously that takes time to blend them in.
"We're hoping, having played them a couple of weeks ago, that preparations we'll be doing this week should set us up well for this tie."
