The England representative side start UEFA Regions Cup with win in San Marino
Republic of Ireland 1-2 England
UEFA Regions Cup
Intermediate Round Group 6
England, represented by the Jersey Football Combination, got their UEFA Regions campaign off to a great start with a 2-1 victory over Leinster & Munster on a wet and windy afternoon in San Marino.
After a goal-less first half, two goals in two minutes rocked the Irish, who were the competitions runners-up in 2011.
Firstly, a deep cross from Jack Cannon on the left deceived the Irish defence and crept into the net in the 53rd minute.
And then Jamie Savory followed up a rebound from the 'keeper to fire home from 8 yards just a minute later to set the Jersey on their way.
The Irish did pull a goal back with ten minutes remaining but the Jersey Boys held on for a victory which puts them in the driving seat for qualification.
They face Northern Ireland's Eastern Region in the Olympic Stadium on Friday evening, where another victory should be enough to guarantee qualification.
