Wilfried Zaha says he was delighted to be back at Wembley today and once again on the winning side.
Zaha played a starring for Crystal Palace in the Championship Play-Off Final in May, before joining Manchester United at the end of the season and the England international said that winning the Shield in the Wembley sun was a perfect start.
“It’s a great feeling, just being back here. The last time I was here was with Crystal Palace and obviously we won that game too.
“It’s fantastic to win a trophy. That’s why I signed for Manchester United, because that’s what they do. They are literally winners, that’s all they know how to do. I’m glad I joined Manchester United; all I want to do is win medals and this is the place.”
Zaha played for just over an hour before being substituted, and said that the outing was a valuable exercise as he looks to increase his fitness levels ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
“We played well and I think we definitely deserved the win, and it’s good to get a medal so quickly. “
The 20-year-old winger has had a whirlwind summer since signing for the champions - and impressed on the club’s recent tour of Australia and the Far East. He also said that he was blown away by the scale of the events.
“Manchester United are a such a huge club, they have so much support everywhere. It was just so crazy, so many fans everywhere we went.
“I always knew they were a huge club, but until you see it with your own eyes you have no idea.
“It was just so different for me, normally our tours at Crystal Palace were one week but this one was three, but it was a great experience for me and now I just can’t wait to get into the season.”
Manager David Moyes was also complimentary of his new man. He added: "He's done well in the pre-season games and he's going to develop.
"There will be times when he is up and down but it was a great opportunity for him to get on the pitch and be a part of Manchester United."
