Nemanja Vidic believes Manchester United’s FA Community Shield triumph will act as a springboard for their Premier League title defence.
The Serbia defender captained the Red Devils as they beat Wigan 2-0 at Wembley Stadium, with a brace from Robin van Persie seeing off the Championship side.
It is the first trophy the Red Devils have won under the reign of new manager David Moyes, who replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford at the end of last season.
And Vidic welcomed the new boss’ first silverware. He said: “It's a good start, to start with a trophy.
"It's good to feel from the first day how it is to win a trophy with Man United. It's a great feeling. I remember the first time I lifted a trophy with Man United – I was really excited.
"We're looking forward to this season. We always want to improve, we always want to win trophies. This year people question us even more, because Sir Alex left.
"We know how good he is and how many trophies he won for the club but we want to prove we can win the trophies again.
"Big games are coming and we have to be ready and work hard to achieve what we want to and that's to win more trophies."
