Army FA v FA Legends
4pm, Saturday 18 May 2013
Madejski Stadium, Reading FC
Stuart Pearce is expecting a good game between his Army FA team and The FA Legends when they meet at the Madejski Stadium for charity later this month.
With England Manager Roy Hodgson in charge of an all-star team for the Legends, Pearce has been working with the Army on the training ground in preparation.
And he’s been impressed with what he’s seen so far, as the squad prepare for the game which also celebrates 125 years of Army football.
FATV went along to see one of Pearce’s training sessions with the Army and the England Under-21 Head Coach explained how well it’s been going.
He said: "There's some real talent in there and the one thing they do, which is a real bonus to any coach, is put things into practice when you ask them to do it and they pick it up very quickly.
"The goalkeeper has impressed me with his distribution and the centre-forward is technically a very good player.
"They're an organised outfit and they're used to that in their daily routine
"I'm looking forward to the game and how we play against a technically very good side.”
With the likes of Gary Neville, Stan Collymore, Peter Beardsley, Jens Lehmann, Gareth Southgate, Paul Merson, Ledley King, Matt Le Tissier, Dietmar Hammann and Tore Andre Flo all in Hodgson’s squad, it's sure to be an eventful and entertaining match.
And with all ticket sales going to Service charities that promote sporting opportunities for soldiers, including wounded warriors who play sport as part of their rehabilitation, Pearce is hoping to see a big crowd in attendance on 18 May.
He added: "That's what it's all about, raising money for the military and good causes.
"Myself and The FA are very respectful of everything they've done for our country, ourselves and my liberty.
"Hopefully we'll get a good attendance on the day and raise some money that's valuably needed.”
