Continental Tyres will continue to help drive the women’s game forward in England after they extended their partnership with The FA.
They will become one of the exclusive partners of The FA’s new commercial programme for women’s football from 2014-2018.
The extended partnership will include the WSL, the England Women’s team, The FA Women’s Cup and The FA WSL Continental Cup. In addition, Continental will continue to support The FA Girls’ Football Festivals, a national programme to increase participation at grassroots level, as well as being one of the Official Supporting Partners of St. George’s Park, the new national football centre.
Specific rights will include the continued title sponsorship of The FA WSL Continental Cup, exclusive Official Tyre Partner of The FA WSL, branding opportunities at high profile televised fixtures, access to elite players, as well as exclusive activity at grassroots level in communities via The FA Girls’ Football Festivals.
Continental Tyres’ historic ties to football span across the game, from sponsorship of the UEFA European Championship, the FIFA World Cup, European club football, through to grassroots and community programmes.
In 2011, they strengthened their commitment to the national game by becoming a partner of the WSL in its first season. They will continue to play a pivotal role supporting The FA in delivering its five-year strategic plan, ‘Game Changer’, which aims to drive the game forward at every level.
Integral to this is the expansion of The FA WSL, which currently consists of eight club teams competing in an elite summer league. From 2014, this will be expanded to include 18 clubs across FA WSL 1 and FA WSL 2. The new two-tier structure will allow for promotion and relegation between the leagues, which will improve the league status and increase professionalism.
Following the increased profile of The FA WSL, the rise of the England Women’s team to seventh in the world rankings and the success of the London Olympics, women’s football is the largest growth area of the national games and is now the third biggest team sport in the country.
Continental Tyres will have the opportunity to reach this broad and growing demographic, with a fanbase and participation levels continuing to increase all the time. Through their support of the game at every level, they will be able to communicate with customers through a national programme with genuine local relevance and make a real and measurable difference to the progress of the sport.
