A brace apiece for Beth Mead and Joanne Wilson ensured Sunderland and Watford played out a 2-2 for the second time in under six weeks.

Wilson put the Hornets ahead in the 34th minute, only for Mead to level just before half-time.

Watford took the lead again after 59 minutes, but the reigning champions, and League leaders rallied once more as England youngster Mead equalised for a second time to extend the Black Cats unbeaten start to the season.

After the game, Sunderland boss Mick Mulhern said: I’m disappointed to drop two points.

“We were dominant throughout and created several very good chances but they wouldn’t go in today.

“We pushed hard for a winner but we ran out of time. That can happen but there were lots of positives and I can’t fault my players’ attitude and endeavour."

Elsewhere, Manchester City defeated Barnet 1-0.
