Sunderland wasted their chance to extend their lead at the top of The FA Women’s Premier League as they let a two-goal lead slip at home to Coventry City.
The hosts had gone two goals ahead through Sophie Williams and Beth Mead, and appeared to be cruising to an eighth win of the season.
But they then eased off the gas as Milly Durant pulled one back and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk rounded the goalkeeper to equalise at the death.
Yet Sunderland still seemed set to have a one-point lead at the top of the table with Leeds losing at home to Nottingham Forest, only for Millie Bright to grab a last-minute equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw. That leaves both sides level on points at the top of the table, with Coventry in third.
Barnet remain fourth despite losing 1-0 at Reading, with the vital goal coming at the beginning of their match, Nikki Watts scoring the only goal in the very first minute.
Watford remain rooted to the bottom of the table after also losing 1-0, in their case against Cardiff City, for whom Cori Williams scored the only goal of the game.
And in the day’s other game Aston Villa and Charlton remain locked in mid-table after a 1-1 draw, with Cori Daniels scoring a late equaliser for the visitors after Emma Follis had given Villa the lead.
