Leeds held by Bees

Newly promoted Barnet pick up point at Leeds.

Leeds United Ladies kept their unbeaten start to the season going with a 1-1 draw at home to newly-promoted Barnet FC Ladies at Throstle Nest on Sunday.

Barnet took a surprise lead after four minutes, when a rare Clare Sykes error in the centre of midfield allowed Holly Sandhow to run through and score comfortably past on-loan keeper Kay Hawke.

After their early setback, Leeds began to exert more pressure on the Barnet defence, but it took until early in the second half before they got the equaliser their efforts deserved. Barnet keeper Cherie Rowlands attempted to clear the ball as Tanya Rich ran in on her, but she could only scoop it across the face of her own goal, allowing Chloe Foster to get her second of the season.

"There was a lot going on at the club this week," said club captain Sykes. "And I think we got a bit distracted by it all. But we're still unbeaten, put this one behind us and look ahead to the League Cup tie at home against Newcastle next Sunday."
