Arsenal Ladies kick-started their FA Tesco Women’s Premier League campaign by thrashing Doncaster Rovers Belles 8-1.

The Gunners had only played one League game so far this season but were hugely impressive in what was an outstanding performance.

There were six separate scorers for Arsenal, with Gemma Davison and Kim Little both grabbing a brace. And they were joined on the scoresheet by England skipper Faye White, Rachel Yankey, Helen Lander and Jennifer Beattie.

Elsewhere in the division, Millwall Lionesses impressive start to the season came to a crunching halt as they were thrashed 5-0 at home by Everton.

Millwall had been top of the table but they were no match for their opponents, with Natasha Dowie scoring an impressive hat-trick.

But Millwall remain top of the table as Watford - the only side who could have drawn level on points with the Hornets - lost 2-0 at Bristol Academy, who had been beaten in all five of their games to date.

It was a bad day all round for teams at the top of the table, as Birmingham Ladies went down 4-2 to Leeds Carnegie. Ellen White was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick.

Sunderland had also been riding high, but they lost 3-1 at Chelsea, while in the day’s other game, Nottingham Forest won 1-0 at Blackburn.
