Leeds hit top spot

FA Tesco Women's Premier League
2pm, Sunday 18 October 2009

Two goals from Sophie Bradley helped Leeds Carnegie Ladies move to the top of the FA Tesco Women’s Premier League table with a comprehensive 5-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest Ladies.

Midfielder Sue Smith opened Leeds’ goalscoring account in the very first minute, before Bradley’s brace and a Remi Allen goal put the visitors 4-0 up at the break.

Jess Clark completed the rout 15 minutes from time to send Leeds clear of Millwall Lionessess, who were not in action on Sunday, and Chelsea Ladies, who were held to a 2-2 draw at Doncaster Rovers Belles.

Meanwhile, Arsenal Ladies remained hot on the heels of the top four with a thumping 4-1 win over lowly Bristol Academy.

Two first-half goals from midfielder Kim Little, plus efforts from England’s Katie Chapman and Gemma Davison after the restart, sealed the points for Arsenal and ensured their opponents remain rooted to the bottom of the early season table.

Elsewhere, Everton Ladies produced a shock result by trouncing second-placed Watford 5-0 with Natasha Dowie, Emily Westwood, Jill Scott, Toni Duggan and Jody Handley all on the scoresheet.

In the day’s remaining fixture, Sunderland Ladies battled to a 3-1 home victory over Birmingham Ladies.
