The Final Countdown

Lincoln City Ladies are counting down to the most crucial match of their season as the Northern Division title and promotion comes down to the very last game.

Lincoln travel to Wearside this weekend in a bid to take all three points and the Northern Division title when they face Sunderland. Nottingham Forest play their final fixture of the season against sixth place Sheffield Wednesday at home at Dunkirk FC.

Lincoln presently occupy pole position at the top of the Northern Division on goal difference, having leapfrogged Forest on Sunday by taking all three points against Aston Villa to put themselves level on points. Lincoln are top by the slenderest of margins; having a one goal better goal difference.

Rod Wilson's players have been hard at work preparing all this week and according to Lady Imps chairman Geoff Adams, spirits and confidence in the Lincoln camp could not be higher.

"This is as close as it gets," said Adams. "But we have a definite and strong momentum behind us at the moment - a momentum that I hope will carry us through to be winners of the title.

"Although we are missing a couple of key players in Kerry Smith and Carla Ward through injury, other players have stepped in well, and I think the team is coming good and starting to peak at just the right time."

BBC Radio Lincolnshire will broadcast live online commentary of the game which kicks off at 2pm, with regular updates too from the match between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday.

Live commentary of the Sunderland v Lincoln match will be available at  www.bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire .
