Watford Ladies picked up a comprehensive three points on Sunday, when a Helen Lander hat-trick helped them to a 4-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

The Hornettes striker took her tally for the season to eight goals with her treble whilst her strike partner Ashlee Hincks also got on the scoresheet.

It took just over 20 minutes for Lander to get her first goal, when she expertly controlled a pass in from the right before looping a volley over the Rovers goalkeeper and into the net.

Ten minutes before the break and she had her second when she raced onto a long ball over the top and found enough power in her shot to make it 2-0.

A close range header in the 51st minute gave Watford a three goal lead and Lander her hat-trick before Katie Anderton pulled a goal back for Blackburn with a calm finish.

Watford's three goal advantage was restored in the 79th minute when Hincks broke into the area from the left before rounding the keeper and smashing home a shot from a tight angle.

Whilst Lander was delighted with her hat-trick, she also admits it was important for the team to get such a good result.

"It's a brilliant result for us today," she said.

"But in the last couple of weeks we've put in performances but results haven't gone the way we'd like.

"Today, we came together really well as a team and got a good score there on the board."

And as for the hat-trick, Lander added: "That takes it to eight for this season and I'm looking to push on and get as many as I can, but the most improtant thing is how the team do and if we're winning then that's great and if I score then that's a bonus on top."
