The sun will rise on a new day for Women’s football next week when the first game in the brand new FA WSL kicks off.

Current Premier League holders Arsenal Ladies travel to face Chelsea in the opening encounter of the exciting new summer league that will bring semi-professional football to the women’s game.

The match at Chelsea’s Tooting & Mitcham home on Wednesday 13 April will also be screened live on ESPN, the first of six live games this season as well as a weekly highlights show every Tuesday night.

Eight teams will compete for the inaugural FA WSL title. Along with Arsenal and Chelsea, on the opening night Lincoln will go up against Doncaster Rovers Belles at Sincil Bank.

The first week of games will also see a Merseyside derby as Liverpool meet Everton at Skelmersdale and Birmingham City will host Bristol Academy at Stratford Town. Those two matches will be on Thursday 14 April.

Action on Sundays and in midweek will be commonplace in The FA WSL through the 14 rounds of games up to September, with a month-long break halfway through the campaign as England head to Germany for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
