The second year of The FA School-Club Link Project is well off and running across the country with many examples of good practice being shown, with the latest piece coming from Norfolk County FA and the work they are doing to develop girl’s football opportunities.
Coordinated by Football Development Officer Asa Saunders and Girls and Women’s Officer Jon Eaton of the County FA, and taking place within the Framingham Earl School Sports Partnership, a new football opportunity to an amazing 450 young girls from four local primary schools and one secondary school has been delivered by established football partners in Norfolk.
Working closely in partnership with the local Football in the Community scheme at Norwich City FC, taster sessions have been delivered in the schools by professional coaches, offering a fun and active football session for young girls.
However, in order to aid the transition to the local club, Poringland Wanderers, qualified coaches from the club have been assisting those from FitC with the delivery, in order to help the potential new players become familiar with one of the local club volunteers.
The club have concentrated their efforts of late on ensuring that all coaches have the minimum FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football qualification in place, to achieve the FA Charter Standard and to ensure that the environment that the new girl’s players go to join is one of a safe, fun and progressive club.
It is hoped that this initial partnership between the club and the local schools will continue in the New Year, with a FA Junior Football Organiser course being run for secondary school students, followed by mini-soccer festivals for their feeder primary schools, thus in bedding the quality football development ethos that is being delivered within the Framingham Earl Partnership in Norfolk further.
