Sven and Trevor joined pupils at Stanburn Middle School, London to launch England: Ready For Euro 2004 - a free cross-curricular resource for teachers of key stage 2 pupils (7 - 11-year-olds).

The FA resource will enable teachers to capitalise on pupils’ enthusiasm for football and England’s participation in the European Championship this summer. The pack aims to help pupils progress in core subjects such as Science, Maths, English, Geography and PHSE (citizenship). It also includes a competition for the pupils and teacher with fantastic England-related ‘money-can’t buy’ prizes.

Sven talks Euro 2004And at a time when concern is being expressed about rising obesity levels in children, the new FA pack will help teachers to highlight the importance of physical activity in a healthy lifestyle.

“I hope as many teachers as possible will use this pack,” said England Head Coach Sven.

"From my own experience I know that learning and developing skills is always easier when it's fun and relevant. It's a principle that applies both to football and the classroom."

England: Ready for Euro 2004 includes colourful posters for display in classrooms and easy-to-use worksheets on Science, Geography, Maths, English and PHSE (citizenship).

Trevor and a young Stanburn pupil“Football instantly engages pupils and so is a fantastic platform from which to teach key subjects - particularly under-achievers who may possibly be lacking in motivation. By focusing on football, we hope that children will relate more easily to these key subjects and find learning stimulating,” added Trevor Brooking.

The FA is making the pack available free of charge to all primary schools via their Local Education Authority. Alternatively, packs can be downloaded here

England: Ready for Euro 2004 is also available on-line to key stage 3 secondary schools (11 - 14 year olds) and can be downloaded here

Produced in conjunction with primary and secondary school teachers, the packs form part of The FA’s Football Development Programme. Next year, the pack will focus on England again as England host the UEFA European Women’s Championship in June 2005.
