The FA has chosen Crosfields JFC to receive the prestigious national Charter Standard award - one of only six clubs in the country - having been selected as The FA’s Charter Standard ‘Development Club of the Year’.
The club will be presented with its award at the England World Cup Qualifying game against Wales at Old Trafford tomorrow, where they will be honoured at half time, alongside six FA Charter Standard Clubs and Six FA Charter Standard Schools.
Crosfields JFC’s commitment to developing the club has resulted in providing an outstanding facility for the community. Its improvement in coaching standards, club amenities and community links has helped create a positive environment that encourages everyone to get involved in the game.
Ian Wells, Crosfields JFC secretary, said the club was proud that its achievements had been recognised by The FA.
"Everyone involved in the club is very proud to receive the award. We have always been a club that provides a ‘Football for all’ policy so all children get the chance to participate in our national sport and it’s the hard work of the children’s’ families that have made this possible.
"The FA’s Charter Standard scheme is great because it recognises the work done by clubs at our level and I think it will encourage others to continue to improve their clubs."
Derry Hill Boys FC’s Alan Crocker meanwhile will receive The FA’s Charter Standard ‘Coach of the Year’ Award.
Alan said he is proud that his achievements have been recognised by The FA. "I am delighted to receive the award. The FA’s Charter Standard scheme is great because it acknowledges the work done by clubs at our level and this award is great news for the club not just me.
"We believe that quality is more important than quantity and everyone involved at Derry Hill Boys deserves recognition for making such a great place for children to play and enjoy football."
Freethorpe FC will receive The FA Charter Standard Adult Club Award, after developing an outstanding facility for the community. Its commitment to maintaining an excellently run club as well as improving coaching and club amenities, has laid the foundations for the launch of a new youth section alongside its acclaimed Adult section.
Stephen Smith, Freethorpe FC secretary, said the club was proud that its achievements had been recognised by The FA.
"Everyone at the club is ecstatic. We have all made a really big effort to improve and develop the club over recent months and our hard work can be seen both on and off the pitch.
Railway Beacon FC's Larry has been instrumental in increasing the size of Railway Beacon Youth FC from two to nine teams and has guided the club to become the first awarded with the FA Charter Standard in West Devon. Larry’s hard work and commitment to the club and his encouragement towards players to respect the rules and regulations of the game has resulted in an excellent disciplinary record being achieved - only five cautions last season.
Larry said he is proud that his achievements have been recognised by The FA. "I am delighted and very surprised to receive the award. I think it’s great that The FA’s Charter Standard scheme rewards the work done by clubs at grass roots so it is nice to be recognised for our effort.
"It’s always a team effort at Railway Beacon and I’m sure this award will encourage everyone at the club to develop and improve further."
Sir Trevor Brooking, The FA’s Director of Football Development said: "The FA is committed to raising the standards of football at grassroots level and these awards acknowledge the fantastic support that Crosfields JFC is providing within the local community, providing opportunities for players of all abilities to develop their skills and play football in a safe and fun environment."
The Charter Standard, supported by FA partner McDonald’s, was established three years ago and aims to improve standards of coaching and player development with a commitment to child protection and a code of conduct for players and parents.
Since then, over 1670 clubs representing more than 15,000 teams and over 200,000 players have achieved FA Charter Standard Club status.
