Lancashire FA Charter Standard Clubs six-a-side Mini-Soccer Festival of Football 2005
The Lancashire FA held its annual County ‘Charter Standard Clubs Festival’ at the County Ground, Leyland over the weekend of 07/08 May 2005.
Fifty teams entered the festival with in excess of 500 children in attendance over the course of the two days.
The Festival was yet again a huge success. As a bonus this season there was a "guest appearance" of the ‘Euro 2005’ Women Championship Winners trophy. Star celebrity on the Sunday handing out the trophies was England and Everton player Kelly McDougal.
The Festival of Football is organised to promote the good work of local clubs who have achieved the Charter Standard award with the ethos of developing players through raising standards and good practice.
The two-day event culminated in the following winners from each age group:
Under-10s Girls - Preston North End WFC beat Bolton Wanderers Ladies
Under-9s Boys - Cockerham Juniors ‘A’ beat Great Harwood Rovers
Under -10s Boys - Real FC beat Cockerham Juniors ‘A’.
There was also an Under 8’s section with 18 teams participating on a ‘friendly’ basis whereby no results were collated. Each player from the Under 8’s received a McDonald’s water bottle and a size 2 skill ball as a memento for the day.
Roger De Nobrega, Lancashire FA’s Clubs Football Development Officer said: "The festival was a huge success and was our most popular ever.
"We had 50 teams over the course of the two days and the quality of the football played and the good spirit in which it was played in is a credit to the Charter Standard Clubs we have in Lancashire."
