The first pilot scheme for Step into Sport for the Further Education sector concluded on 10 May.

The day also provided a vehicle for the launch of a wider pilot within Further Education for the 2007/08 academic year.

Two colleges successfully completed the pilot Step Into Sport scheme in the last academic year and as a result students from Cornwall College and East Berkshire College were invited into Soho Square to be presented with their well earned certificates of achievement by Sir Trevor Brooking.

Six students from Cornwall College were presented with certificates for successfully completing ten hours of volunteering within football in their local community and eight students from East Berkshire were presented with certificates for completing 25 hours.

The students were joined at Soho Square by their lecturers who had supported them through the scheme - Karl Lines and Simon East.

Following on from the presentation, Russ Horsley, British Colleges Sport Football Development Manager, and Donna McIvor, National Football Development Manager, launched an extended scheme for 2007/08.

This scheme, supported by British Colleges Sport, will see 11 colleges and approximately 100 students take part in the Step Into Sport scheme next year.

Students will hopefully achieve 25 hours of volunteering and if successful will not only receive certificates for their achievement and hard work, but also a BCS/FA kit package.
