Coached by England Futsal coach Graeme Dell, the men's team crashed out against Canada with the decisive goal coming in the last five minutes.

Meanwhile the women were unable to cancel out an early strike from their opponents, Russia.

At the Royal Thai Army Stadium, Dell’s boys were unable to break down a Canadian side in a game where both sides seemed to be showing the effects of their fourth game in eight days.

As the second half wore on it looked increasingly likely that one goal would seal it, and so it proved as the Canadians were allowed a free header from a corner with just minutes remaining.

“It’s disappointing but if you don’t take your chances then you don’t win football matches,” said Dell. “We had a number of opportunities in the first half but we couldn’t take advantage of them and it has cost us.”

Elsewhere at the Main Stadium at Kasetsart University, despite having the majority of the possession, Laura Harvey’s side followed a similar pattern, as they lacked a finishing touch.

After conceding an early goal, Britain dominated the game but were unable to force their way back in and the Russians held out to make it to the last four.

Both sides now have two games remaining which will determine where they finally finish within the top eight.
