Robin Gillard presents the cheque to Hospice staff, watched on by representatives of The FA.
Wednesday, 07 May 2008.
Officials from The FA were in Yeovil recently to make an exceptional presentation to Robin Gillard from Chard, an Association match referee in the semi-professional game, in recognition of his outstanding dedication.
The FA’s Referee Manager David Cook, Regional Referee Manager for the South-West Roger Vaughan and Ron Ganfield, a support group referee were there to present Robin with a donation of £500 for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.
“This is the first time I know of that we have ever made a presentation like this, but we wanted to do something to reflect Robin’s dedication and loyalty to football,” explained David.
“Several members of Robin and his wife Louise’s family have had cancer in the past couple of years, but throughout the adversity Robin continued to referee and support the football game as well as support his family.
“Robin and his family asked for the donation to be made to St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice to thank them for the care and support they have given to the family.
“Having now visited St Margaret’s, it was very pleasing to see that the donation was going towards such a worthy cause.
“At The FA we always talk about how the power of football affects so many people and so many things in life and being able to facilitate this donation is a classic testament to that ideal”
“On the anniversary of my father-in-law’s death it was somewhat emotional, but very rewarding to come back and visit the Hospice,” added Robin.
“The dedication by all staff members is something to be proud of. We would like to thank them for their dedication and support to us.”
