The seven results were: Times Athletic 2 Islington Admiral 0, Chelsea 1 Manchester United 0, Bedfont Sunday Reserves 4 West London Phoenix 1, Minerals United 0 Grantchester Road 4, MTV 2 Rothschild 3, Cross Keys Academicals 1 TNT Magazine 0 and Bedfont Sports 2 Sport London e Benfica 3.

That’s 192 for this season and 5,324 altogether.

“The Barber” saw three games at the weekend. In terms of the number of people watching the game as it happened, either at the ground or on television, the figures were:

Chelsea v Man U – 450 million
Bedfont v Phoenix – 5
Minerals v Grantchester – 1

About 17 hours after seeing Didier Drogba’s goal win The Cup for Chelsea at Wembley, I turned up at Bedfont Sports’ ground near Heathrow Airport for Bedfont Sunday Reserves’ Chiswick & District League Division Two match with West London Phoenix. I didn’t know if there was a “history” to that fixture but the tackling was fierce from the start. I started to feel uneasy.

After 15 minutes two players went into a hard 50-50 challenge in midfield and, standing at the side, I was directly in line. There was a horrible snapping sound as boot connected with shin and I think everyone immediately knew what had happened. One chap swiftly called the emergency services on his mobile and a paramedic was on the scene within a quarter of an hour or so, followed soon afterwards by an ambulance.

The stricken player calmed down after the initial shock and, being a young lad of 20 or so, I should think he’ll be pulling the boots on again at some point next season. An injury of that nature is always distressing to the other players, to some more than others, and the tackling became noticeably less fierce. Bedfont, 1-0 down at the time, went on to score four and “win it for Darrell”.

Play had been held up for 32 minutes and, with a few other minor stoppages, the first half actually lasted 82 minutes. A record for “The Barber” but not one that I was hoping to set.

There was a five-stop tube ride on the Piccadilly line to my afternoon game at Boston Manor. Minerals United were playing Grantchester Road in the London Football League Weekend Premier Division but Minerals seemed to be well short of a full complement at the scheduled kick-off time of 2 o’clock. We didn’t get underway until 2.27 and at that time they still only had eight players.

Two other players, including the goalie, appeared about 15 minutes into the game and found that their team-mates had managed to keep the score at 0-0. But Minerals ended up losing 4-0.

Monday night’s double-header before an estimated “crowd” of two at Paddington Rec produced a grandstand finish to the first game. MTV were 3-0 down to Rothschild with four minutes to go. Then they made it 3-1. Then they made it 3-2 with a minute left. Then they piled forward in the last few seconds and won a free-kick just outside the opposition’s box.

So what happened next? The ball was chipped to the far post and bundled into the net. But the assistant referee’s flag was hoisted to indicate offside. Then the final whistle went.
