Kris and his team-mates are hoping Rotherham can do them a favour.
We need a helping handBy Kris Commons. Friday, 04 May 2007.
With one game left this season, Kris says Forest need a helping hand from Rotherham if there are to achieve automatic promotion.
In this week's column, the on-form Forest midfielder looks back at the 3-1 over over Leyton Orient where he played a hand in all the goals.
Hi everyone.
Well, it's gone down to the wire. After we beat Leyton Orient, we found out Bristol City had lost. With one game left, we are a point behind them but have better goal difference.
In our game against Orient, they did not look like scoring, then suddenly they took the lead.
We were playing three up front, with me on the right and Jack [Lester] on the left, both behind Grant Holt. I ended up drifting across to the left, then Grant fell asleep when he was supposed to be tracking the left back and they ended up scoring.
The three of us did not know what was going on, so the gaffer changed it. He told me to go on the left and stay there, but with license to go forward and get crosses into the box.
I played a part in our equaliser, although it was all down to Jack really. He picked it up just inside their half, went through and and slid it just inside the far post. I was alongside him shouting for a pass, but he took it well.
Playing against any side, Jack and I are always going to cause problems. He has such a bright football brain. Sometimes he just has to give me the eye and I'll know I'm going to get the ball. We just seem to be on the same wavelength.
He set me up for my goal which put us ahead. He pulled it back and I hit it first time.
It was my fifth goal in three games - I've never been on a run like it before. I'm so confident at the moment that I'm looking to shoot anywhere from 25 yards. But that's my job, to score and create goals. Luke Chambers and Ian Breckin have looked so solid recently, but it's always the goalscorers that get the glory. The defenders don't get enough credit.
I then set Jack up for the third. We had a free-kick on the edge of their box. Jack came over and said 'this could catch them asleep - knock it over the top, they will think you are going to whack it'. It came off beautifully. I chipped it over the wall and Jack put it away.
It's so pleasing when those things work, because you don't work on them in training.
We knew with ten minutes left of our game that Bristol City were losing to Millwall. Our fans just started celebrating, they were going crazy. When we came off the pitch we were asking if Millwall had managed to cling on, and they had. That has given us a real chance of pinching second spot.
We need Rotherham to draw with City on Saturday, and if they play like they did against us on Easter Monday then they might just do it. If we score early against Crewe and news of our lead filters down to City's ground, then they might get nervous. The pressure is on them. I'm confident we will beat Crewe, but I'm not too confident of Rotherham beating City. We just have to do our job and just hope.
We have been working hard this week. Everyone is focused and determined - we are really committed to getting our job done.
With it being the last game of the season, it's been really hectic. The press have been at the ground. I did a few interviews for TV. It was freezing though when I did one for Sky Sports News. It was supposed to be 16 degrees, so I turned up in a T-shirt and shorts. I didn't have any socks on either.
I asked our press officer if I could borrow a jacket but he said I wouldn't need it. I was that cold I was not sure if the words would come out right. I hope it was alright. Luckily I had had a haircut the day before!
