The FA Charter Standard Community Club received a grant of £650,000 from the Football Foundation towards the construction of the state of the art facility and their ground at Wendron Cricket Club.

The Club has over 300 playing members who will benefit from the facility and they also host an annual mini-soccer festival with over 130 teams entering from all over the South West.

The facility has been designed to use renewable energy sources such as geothermal heating system. Contractors began work in July and the facility is due to be opened in February 2007.

Alan Watson, Project Coordinator, is delighted with the progress that was being made on site.

He said: “The good weather has helped and the whole Club are really excited and looking forward to the new facility.

"Many visiting clubs have made positive comments on how pro-active Wendron are in realising their ambitions, consequently many are now seeing what can be done to improve their own clubs.”
