Run by the Gloucester County FA, in partnership with the Bristol Girls' League and Bristol Academy of Sport, the workshops were designed to give players coaching and technical advice. It also gave coaches new ideas to use in their future work.

In total 33 girls, 24 ladies and 18 coaches attended the sessions representing 26 clubs from across the county.

The workshops, held at Filton College's impressive indoor rubber crumb astroturf facility, were led by a coaching team of Martin Thomas, Assistant National Goalkeeping Coach, Stewart Martyn, Gloucestershire Girls' Centre of Excellence Goalkeeping Coach, and Debbie Arrowsmith, a Level 2 Football Coach.

Over the three weeks players covered a range of topics including diving saves, handling techniques and distribution accompanied by technical handouts for the coaches.

Andy Earnshaw, the Gloucestershire County FA Women's and Girls' Officer, was delighted with the events success.

"There is a lot of great coaching going on within the County's clubs but the goalkeepers tend to get left out as coaches don't always know how to include them," he said.

"This has been a fantastic opportunity for the girls to get some expert coaching, which they can now build on back at their clubs."

These workshops are the second initiative in the Gloucestershire FA's programme of goalkeeping development for the County. Look out for the FA Goalkeeping Level 1 and 2 courses coming soon.
