Stuart Pearce has given his backing to the latest phase of The FA’s new skills course which was launched at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium on Wednesday.

The England Under-21 Coach, who is in the city ahead of his team's UEFA Championship Qualifier against Montenegro in Friday, saw youngsters from four Leicester primary schools take part in The FA Tesco Skills Programme. The scheme, launched earlier this year, is designed to encourage 5-11-year-olds to play the game and develop their own skills further.

The new course, based around a specially designed programme, aims to improve the technical standards in England's stars of the future by providing top-quality coaching across the country to children of all abilities.

The FA Tesco Skills course will provide 66 full-time coaches to run courses across 12 regions in England ranging from Lancashire to Dorset, and from Essex to Durham.

The sessions will concentrate on teaching the skills that are essential not just to football, but all sports, including balance and co-ordination.

"Quality coaching from a young age is vitally important to form the skills base for England stars of the future," said Pearce.

"You only have to look at The Young Lions to see some of the talent coming through, and it is great to see that the programme is giving such a wide range of children the chance to experience this level of coaching."

The aim of the course is to improve the skills of all the children involved, not just those who may be more talented than the rest.

Courses will be running up and down the country. If you are interested in attending, or wish to join the club to learn skills online, visit TheFA.com/Skills for more details.
