The National Deaf Children’s Society have announced that they will be running FA Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Football courses exclusively for deaf people in August.

The Level 1 course will run from Thursday 7 August to Sunday 10 August, and will include Basic First Aid and Child Protection modules as well as the assessment. Those that pass will receive the FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football.  Attendees for this course do not require any formal experience of coaching.

The sessions will be led by two FA Tutors, both of whom are fluent in the use of British Sign Language, while the First Aid and Child Protection modules will be taught with BSL interpreters present.

The Level 2 course, a six-day practical course, will run from Monday 11 August to Saturday 16 August, with a support day on Saturday 25 October.

The assessment weekend will run on Saturday 4 April to Sunday 5 April 2009, from 9am-5pm each day.  Those that pass will receive the FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football.  Attendees for the Level 2 course must already hold an FA Level 1 certificate.

FA Tutors and Assessors are all hearing but BSL Interpreters and trained notetakers will be present throughout all the sessions and Tutors will receive Deaf Awareness training beforehand.

Both the Level 1 and Level 2 courses are funded by the Deaf Friendly Football Club project (funding has kindly come from the Football Foundation, Phonak UK Ltd and Sportsmatch).

Places are free for everyone who has been accepted onto the course.

Both courses will be held at Doncaster College for the Deaf, Leger Way, Doncaster, DN2 6AY. Everyone attending the course has the option of staying at the College Halls of Residence for the duration of their course.
