Middlesex FA supports the development of referees and players with CS Cup.
The
Middlesex County Football Association’s annual Charter Standard Cup competition concluded with its finals night on Thursday 15 July 2010 at Kodak Sports Ground in Harrow.
The tournament, which ran over the first two weeks of July, was staged to provide U11 boys their first experience of playing 11-a-side football before the season begins in September.
In addition, the competition also provided Middlesex County FA Referee Development Manager Keith Hill the perfect opportunity to offer 20 newly qualified referees the chance to officiate and learn the game in a controlled environment, as well as being mentored through each game.
The 20 Level 9 trainee referees officiated games as well as acting as assistant referees too, so as to maximise the learning environment and truly benefit from the on-to-one mentoring on offer.
The experience that the referees and players gained from the tournament will now stand them in good stead for the forthcoming season.
Eighteen Charter Standard teams from across Middlesex entered into the competition which provided at least 160 minutes experience of playing on bigger pitches with full size goals. Previously the players will have only played mini-soccer football and with the step up to the U11 age groups they will now be playing 11-a-side games.
MCFA Referee Development Manager, Keith Hill commented: “The Level 9 trainee referees from our recent courses have had the perfect opportunity to referee their first games towards their qualification as Level 7 or Level 8 referees.
"Supported by the excellent Middlesex County FA Mentoring Scheme staff and County FA Refereeing staff, they have really benefitted from the learning experience in a controlled and positive environment. This will really assist us in training, developing and retaining them as our future referees.”
In addition, MCFA Football Development Officer, Steven Sharpe added: “We have been delighted with the football talent on display at the MCFA Charter Standard Cup but were particularly impressed with the players’ attitude to the game with the new referees and you could see the enjoyment and satisfaction they were getting from playing full-sided football.
"The referees will have truly benefitted from the experience.”
