Premier pair visit North Riding

Howard Webb and Trevor Massey spoke to local referees at York City.

North Riding County FA recently held the first of its two FAMOA events at York City Football Club, as it strives to support, inform and develop match officials at every stage in their careers.

65 Referees were in attendance as well as many County FA officials whilst the guest speakers Howard Webb and Trevor Massey delivered excellent presentations.

Trevor spoke about his experiences as a Select group assistant referee and the qualities needed to make it to the top flight as an assistant referee and then showed video clips and encouraged debate from the audience on examples of teamwork.

Howard then finished the evening off with a very honest and passionate presentation looking at his career and sharing his thoughts on many aspects of refereeing. Howard was very open and showed a few examples of mistakes that he had made in his career and looked for ways to avoid making them in the future.  He also shared his thoughts on The FA’s Respect programme and informed the audience he was very mindful that he had a responsibility to all grassroots referees when officiating at the top level.

The evening was hosted by Alan Kaye, a PGMOL referees coach and North Riding County FA instructor and Ross Joyce, North Riding's Referee Development Officer was delighted with the evening

“It was really pleasing to see so many people attend an FAMOA event at York City FC once again. To have one of the country’s best referees and assistant referees at the same event was an honour and I know from the feedback I have received that each and every referee will have taken something away with them.”
