England star visits Aldercar

England ace Karen Carney helps at coaching sessions in Derbyshire.

England Women’s international Karen Carney recently attended Aldercar Football Fun 4 Girls at Aldercar Community Language College, Derbyshire.  The event was run in partnership between Derbyshire County FA, Aldercar Community Language College and Derby County in the Community.

Football Fun 4 Girls ran over two days with 34 girls from the local area attending with the sessions being lead by female coaches from Derby County in the Community.

The girls took part in coaching sessions, played in a tournament and had a talk on fire safety from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue. The girls also had a question and answer session with Carney who talked about how she got into playing football, what it was like playing for England and being part of the squad. Karen signed the girls' certificates and had photographs taken with the girls.

Angie Harper, Derbyshire FA’s Women’s, Girls and Inclusion Football Development Officer said: “The event was a great example of partnership working and having Karen come down was a great way to end the two days. The girls were excited to meet England international Karen Carney and I would like to thank her for supporting girl’s football in Derbyshire.  I would also like to thank Kathy Hardy at the college for all her hard work in making the event a success.”

Meanwhile, Carney will be keeping her eyes on TheFA.com on Friday as the England Women's squad for the FIFA World Cup is announced.
