All hands on deck

FA coaching staff deliver seminars and sessions to Royal Navy FA.

FA Regional Coaching Development Managers, Geoff Pike and Richard Horner, delivered coaching seminars and practical sessions at the RNFA Coaches Association day held at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth.

This was the first Coaches Association event of 2009 and was attended by nearly 30 members of the RNFA Coaches Association, along with coaches from local grassroots clubs, Havant and Waterlooville FC and Portsmouth FC.

The morning session was delivered by Richard, and was focused around the new Age Appropriate courses, and the alternate coaching pathway offered to coaches working with young players. Practical and theory sessions gave coaches an insight into the Introductory and Module 1 courses and the benefits they offer. The initial feedback from those attending was very positive, with a number of coaches showing an interest in enrolling on the Module 1 course due to be delivered by the RNFA 18-21 May 2009.

The afternoon session was focused towards the senior coaches who attended, and was delivered by Geoff Pike. The session centred around developing crossing opportunities, which then progressed into finishing from crosses. The players for the session where members of the Navy Youth U19s squad, who where flying out to the USA the following day to compete in the Dallas International Cup. The session again proved to be a huge success, especially with the players, who no doubt benefited from Geoff’s vast knowledge.

Coaches Feedback:

"I thought today’s training day was very beneficial, a good balance between coaching children and coaching senior/elite players. A thoroughly good day."
Michael Conway - Hants FA Community Coach

"A very stimulating day with good information delivered for those both working at the Grassroots level with young players, as well as like myself, working with the more senior teams."
Shaun Gale - Manager Havant and Waterlooville FC
