Get Into Football

Phoenix rise to occasion

Phoenix Sports were the stars of the London FA’s second annual Charter Standard Clubs’ festival.

The club won both the under-eight and under-ten categories which took place on Sunday 20 August at Long Lane FC in Greenwich.

The aim of the event was to promote the Charter Standard programme and to highlight the good practice that takes place in London FA Clubs.

The competition was open to all of London’s 52 youth clubs with Charter Standard status and as more clubs achieve Charter Standard status this annual event will grow in numbers.

This year’s festival included teams for under-eight, under-nine and under-ten. The winners and runners up of each category were awarded trophies and in keeping with the principles of the Charter Standard, fair play medals were presented to a team in each category that demonstrated the best conduct. There was also a certificate of attendance and a FA ‘Get into Football’ wristband for each player taking part.

Phoenix Sports (under-eight team pictured above) won two of the three categories while Wandle Wanderers A scooped the award for the under-nines.

The hosts, Long Lane, finished runners-up in the under-eight competition while Hayden Youth (pictured below) and Wandle Wanderers were runners-up for the under-nine and under-ten sections respectively.

Long Lane also won a fair play award, this time for the under-nine section, while Athenlay and Blackheath Wanderers B were the other fair play winners.

The London FA would like to thank Mick Northwood and hosts Long Lane, who are one of London’s five Community Charter Standard Clubs – the highest level of Charter Standard Status.
