Paolo Di Canio
Nationality: Italian
Place of Birth: Rome, Italy
Date of Birth: 9 July 1968
Weight: 11 09
Height: 5' 9''
Club: West Ham United
Position: Forward

Pedigree: One of the most naturally-gifted foreign players to grace the Premiership, Paolo has always created headlines - whether scoring the Goal of the Season for West Ham or pushing over referee Paul Alcock when playing for Sheffield Wednesday. The Italian has split opinion at Upton Park this season through his relationship with Glenn Roeder, The Hammers club captain has questioned his manager more than once and a parting of the ways is inevitable this summer.

Pros and cons: Paolo can win matches with a single piece of brilliance. Unfortunately, his natural temperament can be counter-productive in the dressing-room.

Options: Reading are known to be interested but can you see Paolo in the Nationwide? More likely is a return to Serie A, he has opted to spend most of the season in Italy rather than England recovering from a knee injury. Manchester United were interested a year ago, but not now.

They say: "We haven't made any approach for Paolo since January 2002," Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

He says: "Even if I scored 50 goals for West Ham, they would not want me."

Bernard Diomede
Nationality: French
Place of Birth: Bourges, France
Date of Birth: 23 January 1974
Weight: 12 04
Height: 5' 9''
Club: Liverpool
Position: Midfielder

Pedigree: Arrived for £3million from Auxerre in 2000 with a high reputation, having been part of the French World Cup-winning squad of 1998. But he never made an impression at Anfield and in January was shipped out to French club Ajaccio on loan. Very unlikely he will be back when his contract runs out this summer.

Pros and cons: Udoubted international quality, but has been injury-prone over the last couple of years and isn't cut out for English football.

Options: All his admirers are in France and Ajaccio may face competition to sign him on a permanent basis from Bastia and Marseille.

He says: "In my head, I'm already gone"

Marco Gabbiadini
Nationality: English
Place of Birth: Nottingham, England
Date of Birth: 20 January 1968
Weight: 13 04
Height: 5' 10''
Club: Northampton Town
Position: Forward

Pedigree: Has been scoring goals for 15 years, most notably for Derby County. Easily Northampton's top scorer this season with 14 goals even though it wasn't enough to stop them being relegated to Division Three.

Pros and Cons: You never lose the knack of scoring goals but with money tight in the lower divisions he may be too expensive for many clubs.

Options: This might be time for mighty Marco to look at a job as player-manager possibly starting in the Conference.

He says: "I know I'm 35 but I still think I can do a job."
