Martin Allen’s Bees were on top against the Black Cats from the very first minute and produced a memorable performance at a packed Griffin Park to win 2-1.

Young striker DJ Campbell, who was such a hero for non-league Yeading in last year’s competition, was the star with two stunning goals, the second coming in almost the final minute.

But manager Allen was delighted with every member of his squad as they had more possession and more shots on target than their rivals.

"It’s days like this that make you realise why you go into work every day," he said. "To see the look on the players’ faces and the fans as well was fantastic.

"The fans here pay monthly direct debits just to keep the club alive, I don’t know if that happens anywhere else. And it means when we get success they are very much part of it.

I don’t mind who we get in the next round, we’re ready for anyone." It is the second season in a row that the Bees have reached the Fifth Round of The FA Cup and who would deny them a crack at one of the real big guns at the next stage?

Other contenders for the Team of the Weekend crown include fellow League One side Colchester United, who beat Championship side Derby to reach Round Five.

Just like the Bees they are managed by a highly promising young manager in Phil Parkinson and boasted a two-goal hero - this time Neil Danns.

Elsewhere Coventry City, whose manager Micky Adams counts Brentford as one of his previous clubs, saw his side earn a highly creditable 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough with a pulsating display.

Trinidad striker Stern John, who could face England in the World Cup Finals, earned Coventry a replay. "I thought my players were magnificent," said Adams. "I thought we could have won the game."

In league action Stockport, bottom of League 2, deserve a mention for earning a draw at top of the league Wycombe. And in the Championship Watford continued their remarkable season under young boss Adrian Boothroyd by beating Crewe 4-1 to move up to third.

But even though the Hornets are buzzing it’s the Bees who really deserve the headlines.
