Saturday
West Ham United boss Alan Pardew has declared his ambition to one day manage his country. Speaking in the Sun, he said: "After this club I want to be England manager, a blue ribbon manager," before adding: "But I’m not going to be England manager next year. I’m here at West Ham for the long haul."
Bolton Wanderers coach Sam Allardyce reveals in the Mirror that England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson is "aware of both Kevin Nolan and Nicky Hunt," the latter who scored his team’s opener in Saturday’s 2-2 home draw with Liverpool.
Meanwhile Nolan declared himself "pleased" in the Daily Telegraph with comments made by Eriksson’s assistant Tord Grip on TheFA.com last week about the player’s international potential. "The hard work and everything that I put in at the start of the season and the performances are not going unnoticed by the (England) manager."
According to Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp, England Under-21 international Jermain Defoe, who scored against Pompey on his Tottenham Hotspur debut on Saturday, "would have played for England by now had West Ham not got relegated."
And Redknapp, who brought the striker to Upton Park from Charlton Athletic, also believes that Defoe "is right up there with Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen." (Daily Mirror)
Sunday
West Ham manager Alan Pardew is quoted in both the Sunday People and Mirror as saying that he believes that 21-year-old front man Jermain Defoe "should be in the England squad that goes to Portugal and I think he will bring something different to the squad."
Sol Campbell reveals in the Sunday Mirror his wish to compete for Great Britain in the Olympics, saying: "The Olympics is a magnificent event. Personally, I'd love to be able to play football at an Olympics for a British team. It's such a great achievement to be able to compete at an Olympics and I'd love to be there."
Monday
Raddy Antic has played down weekend speculation linking him to the vacant managerial position at Spurs, claiming that he is solely focussing on his present job as caretaker coach of Celta Vigo. (Sun)
