Paolo Di Canio tells the Sun that England international Scott Parker "is the best English midfielder on the scene - and I am not exaggerating. He plays every match and gets nine out of ten," before adding: "He is another Roy Keane, but with an even more complete understanding of the game."

The Independent reports that Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce is planning to go to Tunisia in a last-ditch attempt to convince his captain, Jay-Jay Okocha, to sign a new contract with the club. However, according to the Daily Telegraph, the Nigeria skipper is keen on a transfer to "a bigger club."

Sunday

Yesterday’s football headlines were dominated by transfer tales that are supposedly set to occur this summer, including:

Youri Djorkaeff has threatened to leave Bolton if they do not qualify for Europe next season, alleges the News of the World, who also claim that the Frenchman’s former international team-mate, Sylvain Wiltord, is set to leave Arsenal following their capture of José Antonio Reyes.

And the same paper says that Borussia Dortmund playmaker Tomáš Rosický will wait until the summer before signing for Chelsea, with the Czech Republic international being joined at the Bridge next season by Ajax full back Hatem Trabelsi, the Sunday Times reveals.

The same paper also reports that Leeds United striker Mark Viduka is returning from being with his seriously ill father in Australia to talk over a potential £4m move to Middlesbrough.

But the Independent on Sunday believes that the two parties have not left themselves enough time to complete the deal before the window shuts at 1700GMT on Monday, meaning the Australia international will remain a Leeds player until the end of the campaign.

Scott Parker’s move to west London could force his international team-mate Joe Cole to look for a new club, reports the Sunday Mirror, who also claim that Lomana LuaLua is set for a loan move to Portsmouth until the summer, with a view to a permanent transfer.

The Mail on Sunday says that Luís Figo is wanted by a whole host of top Premiership clubs after recently expressing an interest in ending his career in the Premiership.

Monday

And, with less than 24 hours to go until the transfer window finally closes for the season, today’s sports pages are filled with news of last-minute deals, such as the on-off transfer of Mark Viduka to the Riverside.

Both the Daily Star and the Sun believe that the striker will make the £5m switch in time to become a Boro player, whereas the Mirror think that time has run out on the deal.

Norway international Morten Andresen is close to completing a £1m move to Ewood Park, claims the Mirror, while the Daily Express says that Harry Redknapp wants to take Christian Dailly to Fratton Park in a deal costing £500,000.
