Real got off to a stunning start as Ronaldo scored with just sixteen seconds of play gone. It took just three passes for the Brazilian striker to beat Burgos in the vistors' goal.

Raúl kicked off, knocking the ball back to Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman then passed for Ronaldo who ran past three Atletico defenders before clipping the ball neatly over the advancing Burgos.

Beckham then supplied Real for the second goal of the game. Picking the ball up from Michel Salgado, the England captain knocked a 40-yard pass forward for Raúl, unmarked, to cleverly head over the stranded keeper.

Fernando Torres was the only real threat that Atlético posed but even he could not force Casillas to make a save of note.

In the second half Real should have scored a third when Ronaldo's left-footed shot hit the post. The ball deflected into the path of Raúl but he too struck the upright.

Real now face Barcelona on Saturday night leading the Catalans by ten points at the top of the league.
