The Bees must have thought they were in trouble at Hillsborough after seeing defender Michael Turner sent off after 21 minutes when he gave away a penalty in the League One clash.

Steven Maclean scored from the spot for Wednesday, but the home side hadn’t banked on Brentford’s FA Cup hero Alex Rhodes.

The young winger, who scored the winning penalty in an FA Cup First Round shootout against Bristol City, completely turned the game on its head.

He equalised for Brentford after 81 minutes and then set up Deon Burton to strike the winner 60 seconds later.

"We never gave up and I’m very happy with the three points," said boss Martin Allen, who now leads his team out against Hinckley on Tuesday, with the prospect of a Third Round tie at Luton to aim for.

Elsewhere, in the Championship Derby deserve a mention for their superb 3-0 victory over local rivals Nottingham Forest, while Ipswich’s 4-2 win at QPR was thrilling.
