QPR manager Ian Holloway masterminded an impressive victory over Leicester on Saturday.
Rangers on the rise
Sunday, 26 September 2004.
QPR and their inspirational manager Ian Holloway take the Team of the Weekend award after coming back from 2-0 down against Leicester to win 3-2.
Only a few weeks ago there was talk of pressure on Holloway following a stuttering start to the season and the arrival of a new consortium at the club backed by Brazilian legend Dunga.
But five wins in a row later, Rangers are up to seventh in the Championship table and all the talk is of play-offs not relegation.
Holloway's incredible enthusiasm and competitiveness has shone through in that spell, and his half-time team-talk on Saturday must have been something pretty special!
Rangers were 2-0 down at that stage. But two goals from veteran striker Paul Furlong and one from Lee Cook secured victory, with the winner coming in the very last minute.
Other teams in contention for this weekend's prize include Reading, whose 1-0 win at Watford put them top of the Championship for the first time in their history.
Bournemouth also deserve a mention for their 5-0 demolition of Doncaster, just days after triumphing at Blackburn in the Carling Cup, as do Sheffield Wednesday who won 3-0 at Wrexham on Paul Sturrock's first day in charge.
Elsewhere Yeovil's 2-1 win at Shrewsbury put them top of League 2, while in the Conference Carlisle scored a remarkable 5-0 win at promotion rivals Aldershot. But the top plaudits still go to Loftus Road!
