West Ham have been given amid-day deadline today to decide whether to sell Michael Carrick to Portsmouth.
Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric last night confirmed he had made an improved offer for the 23-year-old midfielder.
"With add-ons it is probably in excess of £3million," said Mandaric.
"But I have told West Ham chairman Terry Brown that we must know by mid-day whether they are prepared to sell." (Daily Express)

Patrick Vieira’s move to Real Madrid could collapse because Arsenal have upped the asking price to £25million, according to the Daily Star.
Madrid want to present Vieira to the club’s fans on Tuesday, but there is now some concern at the club.
If the deal is not completed soon, Madrid will turn their attention to Porto midfielder Maniche.

Steven Gerrard has shrugged aside fears he could miss the start of the season and insisted he is hopeful of figuring in Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier next week.
Gerrard sustained a thigh injury in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Roma, but he is confident of facing AK Graz in Tuesday’s first-leg showdown.
"I just felt my muscle was a bit tight, but I don’t think it will be a problem," said Gerrard.
