QPR player and Birmingham City Ladies manager Marcus Bignot.
No bank holidayFriday, 27 August 2004.
Welcome to my column, where you catch me at the beginning of a busy weekend. There's no such thing as a bank holiday for me.
I play Gillingham tonight, then train for QPR's match against Sheffield United on Sunday morning - then drive to Birmingham on Sunday afternoon to manage my ladies team when they play Leeds.
We are on TV again tonight, and we are determined to play well in front of the cameras, because we haven't had much luck so far. We were live on Sky against Watford earlier in the season and we got spanked.
But at least we are going into this game on the back of a win over Swansea. It's good to post the first win of the season, because it gives us all confidence, and we need it now that we are competing in a higher division.
I almost scored against Swansea - I had a rush of blood and tried to connect with an overhead kick. It went close (I think), and I didn't hear too many fans groan. It would have been my first goal in this spell at QPR.
But I am determined to score against our next League Cup opponents: Aston Villa. You may not know this, but I am a Birmingham City fan (that's partly how came to manage their ladies team) and you could say I am looking forward to playing them!
Sunday will be a long day for me, because I have to drive up to Birmingham straight after training, because my ladies team are taking on Leeds. The fixture was supposed to be away at Leeds, so I am glad they asked to reverse it. If it had have been away then there's no way I would have made it.
In my entire time as a player of one team and a manager of another I have only missed two games due to fixture clashes. It sometimes involves some long days, but I enjoy it.
Our striker, Rachel Yankey is carrying an injury at the moment. It's nothing serious, but she will miss the Leeds game. She has a bit of scar tissue inside her ankle from an old injury, and she aggravated it last week when she was playing for England against Russia.
I managed to get my TV fixed and see the England game and they would have been disappointed to lose. They have European Championship qualifiers coming up, and I am sure the staff will be doing all they can to prepare for those.
Be sure to come back next week, when hopefully I will be celebrating QPR's first win in the Championship!
QPR play Gillingham tonight, then Sheffield United at Loftus Road on Tuesday. Birmingham City Ladies play Leeds United on Sunday 29 August, then Everton the following Sunday.
