The Liverpool and England midfielder announced he was staying at Anfield, dashing Chelsea’s hopes of signing him in a British-record £36m deal.
Gerrard admitted that he had considered moving after being disappointed with the Merseyside club’s progress over the last two years.

Cole has apparently been earmarked by the Spanish giants to replace Brazilian hero Roberto Carlos.

Valente, 30, impressed with his performances for Porto last season and has played a key role in Portugal’s march to the semi-finals of Euro 2004.
Porto would be looking to receive at least £3m for the defender who is also wanted by several other European clubs.

Steve Bruce has signeda new five-year contract at Birmingham, report The Sun.
He has apparently agreed a £1.6m-a-year deal keeping him at St Andrews until 2009.
Birmingham chief executive Karren Brady is quoted as saying: "We are delighted it secures his future and overcomes any speculation linking him with other clubs."

Newcastle are ready to pinch Nicky Butt from under the noses of Middlesbrough, according to The Sun.
Butt, 29, is said to be ready to listen to offers over the next fortnight after deciding that his Old Trafford days are over.
Sir Bobby Robson’s Newcastle are reportedly favourites to land Butt in a £4m deal.
