Now Chelsea are top of the Premiership after the point they earned against us at St Andrews on Tuesday night, it will be interesting to see if they can stay there for the rest of the season.
The Londoners are certainly capable of winning the title, but having recently played Manchester United as well, I still believe that they will retain their title next May. I was certainly impressed by Chelsea, but I just think United's experience of winning the Premiership so many times before will give them the edge.
Nonetheless, Chelsea are packed with some truly world-class players, who have won trophies all over Europe. They have so much flair and creativity in their squad that they can punish you so easily. Just look at their bench on Tuesday night, with players like Eidur Gudjohnsen and Damien Duff on it. And never mind the bench, consider the players who weren't even there like Marcel Desailly, Adrian Mutu and Juan Sebastian Veron
Despite the arrival of all these foreign superstars, it is good to see one of my old team-mates from the England Under-21s thriving at Stamford Bridge. John Terry is a good pal of mine and I have been delighted to see how well he's doing this season. I watched England play Turkey with a couple of friends in a bar back in Blackburn at the weekend and thought John was one of our best players.
JT, as I call him, has had some difficult times, but he's come through them and is now proving what a brilliant player he is. He has all the ability in the world, and don't forget he's only 22, so will get even better.
I have been surprised that Joe Cole has been used so sparingly this season, and Tuesday night was only his first start in the Premiership. Joe is a wonderfully talented player, who I am sure will show what he can do once he gets a run in the side.
An even bigger surprise was that my mate from Blackburn, Damien Duff wasn't in Chelsea's starting eleven. In my opinion, Duffer is such a great player that he has got to play every single game for Chelsea this season. We still speak on the phone quite a bit, and he's told me he's really enjoying himself at Chelsea.
Chelsea going to the top of the Premiership shouldn't completely overshadow Birmingham winning the point that took us back up to fourth in the table. There is a great mood around club at the moment, and we are confident that will still be the case after we play Aston Villa on Sunday lunchtime.
