Scott Carson became England's record Under-21 caps holder against Serbia on Sunday overtaking Aston Villa's Gareth Barry and Liverpool team mate Jamie Carragher to claim his 28 appearance.
Carson was Leeds United's keeper when made his debut at Hull City in February 2004 as the Three Lions beat Holland 3-2.
Since then, following a move to Liverpool, the 21-year-old has gone on to collect two caps for the England B team and was also part of England's World Cup squad in Germany a year ago.
After this competition, Carson will be too old to play for the Under-21s and is targeting more experience with Steve McClaren's senior team and says, following a season on loan at Charlton, he wants more first-team action to help his international case.
"To get one cap was brilliant, I'm delighted to get this far. But I'm not really concentrating on the caps and things like that, I'm just concentrating on getting us as far as possible in the competition and hopefully go on to win it," he said.
"I've always looked forward to this and my main objective of the season was to play here and hopefully bring back the trophy.
"I think you can only get in the England squad when you are playing games regularly but we'll have to wait and see what happens next season and take it from there."
Carson says he has a number of good memories from his 27 games so far, but puts the two matches against Germany in October, which saw them qualify for this summer's Finals, as his highlight.
"It's an honour to play for England and over the last three years we've had some really good times, and great results," he told TheFA.com.
"But it's the two games against Germany to qualify for the UEFA Championship which stand out, and particularly the away leg. It was a very good atmosphere in the ground, quite hostile, so it was such a sweet feeling to win on their patch."
And what about Scott best save for England?
"Well, although it was less than a week ago, I reckon my best save was against the Czechs in our first game here in Holland," he added.
"Their player swung in a free-kick from the right and it was sneaking into the top corner. Fortunately I managed to get across the goal and get my left hand onto it to tip it onto the woodwork.
"It's always nice to make saves and I think that was a fairly important one too."
England midfielder James Milner, who was a Leeds team mate with Carson, is currently one cap behind the goalkeeper, but will still be available for the Under-21s' next European Championship campaign, which begins in September.
